For the money, I don't think you can get anything better. I'm not willing to spend 10k plus on a luxury Swiss watch, but this Orient Mako II is a fabulous and affordable alternative. It's a real watch, automatic-mechanical with the accurate Japanese F6922 caliber movement. It's a true dive watch, 200 meters. It's made of rugged stainless steel. It's a nice middle size; big enough to see but not a tuna can on your wrist. Finally, it is a beautiful watch, rich looking and feels luxurious to wear. A power watch for the rest of us.You won't regret your purchase, I highly recommend.I own a dozen Orient watches. I'm very experienced with the brand. All of my other Orients are better timekeepers, within 6 spd over the course of a week. This specimen isn't as good as the others. My watch was sold by and fulfilled by Amazon. Shipment was very careless -- they placed the white Orient box in a thin-bubble padded envelope and allowed the USPS to have their way with the watch in transit. The F6922 movement gained 34 seconds during the first 24 hours when lying face-up on my desk. By itself that is not particularly alarming, as a new mechanical watch often takes the better part of a month to settle-in. The problem is that the timekeeping didn't get any better as the watch broke-in. This watch spent two weeks lying face-up on the desk during break-in to verify that the watch would perform within manufacturer's timekeeping specs of -15/+25 spd in the face-up position. Unfortunately this specimen has been consistently faster than the manufacturer's maximum allowed deviation so it's being returned for replacement.Amazon really needs to reconsider how they package watches for shipment. Other merchants double-box their watches and pad them with peanuts. All Orient watches that I've received that way have kept good time. Every Orient watch that I've bought at Amazon have been shipped in a padded envelope or in an oversized box without any padding. I've even had watches shipped by Amazon in the same box with a disc brake caliper and a heavy automotive wrench without any padding! No surprise, every one of those watches has ended up being returned for timekeeping issues. All in all I think the Mako II is a great watch for the price. Fit and finish look great. I have two problems with this specimen: 1) timekeeping is substandard for an Orient mechanical watch, 2) the crown and the lip on the case that protect the crown/stem have some very sharp edges on the on the back side. The result is that when I unscrew the crown to adjust the time, the sharp edges consistently split the fingernail on my right index finger. This is a problem with poor Chinese manufacturing quality. The Chinese manufacturers take the time to de-burr/radius the edges that you see on the front side, but they don't bother to de-burr the edges that you don't see on the back side of the case and on the inner threaded edge of the crown. This Mako II is the first Orient watch I've had that has had this problem. The fit and finish of the Mako II are generally nice, but it seems that Orient is beginning to cut corners in manufacturing, which is disappointing to me as an Orient collector. The case for the new-production Mako II just doesn't seem as well made as my other watches, like the Sun and Moon, Triton, Classic and Bambino.Regarding the Mako II in general, there are some things about it that I like and some things that I don't like. All in all, it's a very decent watch for the money. Orient's are in general a great bang for the buck mechanical watch. The Mako II has a classic dive watch appearance that looks great on the wrist. Cosmetically I love the "Pepsi" Mako II appearance. The Mako II does some with some quality concerns. The stainless steel metal band looks nice, but the SS is thin and stamped, making it very lightweight. The endbells are stamped, but the fit is so good that you don't really notice that they aren't solid. The clasp is particularly thin and flimsy. It is stamped and has sharp edges. I really do not like the clasp, it is uncomfortable to use, it feels cheap, and it needs to be smoother. It just doesn't exude a feeling of quality. The rotating bezel has a coin-edge to make it easy to turn, but the coin edge is not cut adequately deep so it is somewhat difficult to grasp; it is also somewhat sharp making it uncomfortable to grasp. The rotation of the bezel has a lot of resistance, making it unduly difficult to rotate. The combination of being difficult to grasp, sharp to grab, and difficult to rotate makes the rotating bezel very unatisfying if you're the kind of person who likes to use a rotating bezel as a timer throughout the day. The rotating bezel is *MUCH* harder to use than a Triton. It's a real pain in the ****. Overall the watch scores a 10 on looks, but in terms of scoring it's mechanical user interface, it's very disappointing. I'd score it as a 5, lower than any other Orient watch I own. The watch feels abnormally lightweight for a dive watch. Comparing it to the Triton, the Mako II is a true lightweight. The Triton has a much more substantial case and bracelet and feels hefty on your wrist. The Triton fit and finish is outstanding without a single flaw or any rough edges. The bezel is also much more comfortable to grasp than the Mako II and is much easier to rotate. All things considered, being a Triton owner I was very disappointed with the Mako II, I feel like it is a definite step down in quality in terms of the movement, case and bracelet. It's just not in the same league as the Triton. It's evident that Orient is maintaining high quality on their more expensive watches like the Triton, but they are definitely cutting corners on the Mako II line of watches. That's not really a huge problem at this price point, most people probably don't aren't familiar with the more expensive watches and aren't likely to be bothered by it, but the overall quality of the Mako II watches has declined with the Chinese case and bracelet manufacturing to the point that they're just not as good as they used to be. I own many Orient watches. The Mako II is the first one I've owned that I would describe as feeling more cheaply made than the rest. They are obviously cutting corners with the Chinese case and bracelet production.Unbelievable value for the money. I could not be happier with this watch.Gorgeous in person, much better than photos. Keeps good time.I bougth just what I want it,A best watch ever Thank youuuuuuuuuuThis is a beautiful watch and has some heft to it which I like. The dial is easy to read but I haven't had it in an underwater environment yet so I can't comment as to the water resistance. The luminous markers on the dial and hands are just right, some watches light up the room, this isn't one of those. The bezel is a little stiff and I wish the knurls were a little deeper so as to get a better grip but it's not a deal breaker. The accuracy has been a little fast but seems to be settling down. Over all this is a nice watch for the money. The watch comes with a box, case, tags and booklet. Feels really solid and has a nice weight to it.The finish on the case and bracelet is good, the mineral is clear. The bezel was a bit stiff in the begining, has a nice tactile and audible click. The dial is beautiful and the whole watch looks great in the light. The lume is a bit weaker compared to some other watches. waterresistance has not been tested. The accuracy of this watch is ok, mine runs about a minute fast a week.At this pricepoint you cant go wrong. solid 8/10 watch.Wrist: ca. 7.9"Love everything about this watch. Orient is what Seiko used to be (I know they are part of the same larger corporation). Great colors on this piece and it is just solid with a great movement. Believable water resistance. Legit dive watch.Once in a blue moon you receive a product that just exceeds your expectations, and this happened a few hours ago.The Orient Mako ii Black just arrived to me in UK from USA 5 days early.- It looks just stunning; the bracelet is quality - amazing.- The weight is really comfortable - you know it's there but in a reassuring kind of way.- The crown is small and screwing it out first time was difficult. The crown guard covers most of it so there's very little surface to grab so you end up digging in with your thumbnails.- The 3 positions, for winding, date setting and time setting are very close together.- Lume is not in the same league as Seiko 5, but you get hacking and manual wind and a better bracelet. Bezel is tight and a tiny bit to the right of centre at 12 but you're forgiven. The rest of the review just gives advice on setting it up first time.To adjust bracelet, push the pins out IN THE DIRECTION of the arrow. I needed 2 links removed so took one from each side, so the clasp stays central. A .5mm clutch pencil is the perfect size.If you're going to hand wind it (I needed to get mine going) just give it a few turns, because if you think you're in the date position and give it a turn you might wind it more than you should. Then pull the crown all the way out and set time to 6 o clock (so you don't damage the movement setting the date). Then push it in one click and set the day/date to yesterday or 2 days ago. Then fix the date by changing the time. Go a minute or 2 past, pusk the crown in 1 step to let the seconds get to 12. Pull out again and wait for time.is to catch up with you and push the crown in bang on time. The watch is adorable – just get it and stare! Good value watch, Bought this one as a kick about watch. My requirements:* inexpensive* automatic so I don't need to worry about a battery* Hack movement* Good water resistance* Standard lug width so I could change out the straps* Day and date function* Luminous hands and hour markers* Rotating bezel* Reputable manufacturer with good reliability* Doesn't look like it was made in someones shed with a hacksawThis ticked all those requirements so far, I'll monitor the accuracy for a while, but at the moment it is keeping fairly reasonable time at +12 seconds per day which I can live with, at some point I may open it up and regulate it to see if the accuracy can be improved. In terms of looks, it's not bad, it isn't spectacular so doesn't look like a £2,000 watch, equally it does not look like a £120 watch either, The finish is very good for the price point, highly polished and brushed finished on the case, no ugly machining marks definitely on par in terms of finishing with middle of the road makers quality. The lume markings work well throughout a whole night and are clear and unmistakeable (no confusing hour hand with minute hand). The rotating bezel is positive and lacks any play. The crown carries the makers logo which is a nice touch. Day and date are clearly visible and easy to adjust. The crown is a little on the small side and can be tricky to wind and screw down. The metal bracelet is ok, the end links aren't solid, but for this price well worth the money, the clasp is fold over and button retained giving great security.Overall this watch is terrific value, seriously chuffed with the quality and features, highly recommended.Better than I ever imagined! The picture makes the watch look much bigger than it actually is, and since I have a thin wrist I was worried that this watch would look too big for my wrist - however, I was pleasantly surprised. The finishing of all aspects of the watch is superb. The watch box is also much better than I initially thought after seeing images of it online - this was also much smaller than it appears on images, but feels very nice quality. The watch is (so far) keeping perfect time. I will keep track of this, however, I am not too worried about it as the watch itself is less than £150!You will not be disappointed!I bought this seven months ago. I wear mine every day and it runs fast by a few minutes each month. TBH doesn't bother me that it gains a few minutes - better than losing them! I'm impressed for an automatic at this price. I generally correct the time every couple or few weeks when the difference becomes noticeable. I have relatively narrow wrists but friends - and the missus - say the watch looks good on me - otherwise I would have sent it back. I really like it - I like the numbers on the face without it looking cluttered. Looks smart but sporty. The luminous dials need a bright light on them to work - and don't last long - they certainly don't last all night. It doesn't bother me much. The mineral glass lasted seven months without scratching ...has a small scratch from keys now - I'm back on Amazon looking for a product to rub it out with! I believe products exist. The clasp is fine. I'm glad I bought this watch - and would buy it again.
